I am typically a positive person and I am happy to see that my ever smiling face, even through adversity, has something to smile about yet again. The January 2010 Manufacturing ISM Report on Business indicates the sixth consecutive month of economic growth in the manufacturing sector, with the overall economy continuing to grow for the ninth consecutive month.
So this is good news and we should take comfort in the little good news we hear these days. It is a very important time for manufacturers and suppliers to have their website ready to greet sourcing professionals who will be actively looking to secure their orders for the upcoming production months. Remember it takes about three seconds for a very busy buyer to click away from a website that doesn’t immediately appear to offer the products/services and website experience he hopes to have while sourcing what he needs.
So how can you stand out? First, do your homework. Know exactly what your target audience groups need right now. If you’re not sure then by all means send out an email and ask them. Be certain these items appear on or are easily linked to from your home page or targeted landing page. Include professional images and any collateral information that lets them know you are equipped to help them the way in which they need to be helped.
Don’t feel you always have to be the least expensive option. Offer value added services or some other business related item that lets them know you will work with them to get them what they need on time and within budget. Yeah, yeah, you know this already. But are you doing this effectively on your website? Do you know how to tell if you are doing this well on your website?
Building a website and leaving it alone is not good enough. Just like your staff, it needs ongoing updates and evaluations to understand what has to be done to improve results. And if you expect to get found in the search engines then now is the time to update your search engine optimization efforts for those specific products/services you know your target audience wants. Be prepared for the growing opportunities happening in the manufacturing sector…really prepared not just pretend prepared. Make the changes or functionality enhancements that ensure you and not your competitors win the business that is generated during a growing economy. Bottom line…Be competitive!
