How Important is Being Green?

Industrial Companies Are Going "Green"
Let me throw a question out to all of you? How many of you are engaging in environmentally conscious manufacturing and business practices? How many of you are letting buyers know about it on your website?
Builders were first to promote their eco-friendly initiatives. Hospitals are on-board now (see article by Carol Anne Campbell) and many manufacturers also indicate when they use lead-free processes, such as the RoHS Compliance Plan as laid out by Aries’s Electronics. Some companies have even established environmental policies. Check out Bendheim Restoration Glass Environmental Policy. Still others create an entire product line around it. Look at Xyber Technologies, a computer design and manufacturing company whose product was specifically developed to reduce energy consumption, the distribution of particulate matter, and sound emissions. Several interesting explanations of Xyber technology versus legacy systems are available here.
It seems to be more than a fad. Corporations are investing in eco-procurement initiatives and proudly displaying their efforts on their websites as part of their marketing message: we care and we’re doing something about it.
So what do you think? Do you think buyers really care? Do you think “green” initiatives influence their buying decision?
Let’s talk about it. Send me the link to your web page that promotes your “green” initiatives. And for those of you who think this is all a flash in the pan, let me hear from you too.
