Inbound Links versus Outbound Links? Which Offers Greater Value?

CansStringYou don’t hear too much about link farms anymore. They still exist and you still have to stay clear of them because they do not add legitimate value to your site. For those of you who don’t know what a link farm is, much like a Ponzi scheme that serves to profit by misleading, link farms represent a group of unrelated links that hyperlink to each other for the express purpose of increasing inbound links (pointing to a website) to artificially inflate link popularity and gain higher rankings in the search engines (particularly Google).

We can actually learn a lesson from the theory behind link farms that goes beyond the number of inbound links you have. Basically, the real value lies in the number of outbound links you have that in effect attract more targeted site visitors. If your web page content is highly focused and optimized for what you offer, these site visitors represent buyers you can sell to. Not only are they great visitors to have come to your site but they also add to your link popularity score – a grand slam for you! If these buyers reach you by clicking a link from a directory, search engine, related website, or an information site, this point of departure is recorded as an inbound link, or a relevant vote that serves to enhance your popularity score as calculated by the proprietary algorithm of the search engine (like Google).

So why not hit a grand slam and create many optimized, highly focused and relevant web pages and make sure you submit them to the industrial directories, search engines, and information sites where your buyers are looking for what you offer?!!
